What is the Endocannabinoid System and How does it work?

The endocannabinoid system is responsible for regulating the functions of the brain endocrine and immune systems. It also plays an important regulatory role in the secretion of hormones related to reproductive functions and response to stress. Before we go into greater detail about the endocannabinoid systems let us quickly cover the subsystems it manages to gain a deeper understanding of its’ total impact.

Brain– the primary function of the brain is to effect coordination and balance. It is also responsible for controlling automatic functions such as breathing, digestions, heart rate and blood pressure.

Endocrine– this is a system of glands located deep inside the torso. It is a collection of glands that produce hormones that regulate metabolism, growth and development. It is also responsible for tissue, sexual, reproduction, sleep and mood functionality.

Immune– the primary purpose of this system is to fight of infections and microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses and fungi that can potentially harm the healthy development of the body.

Now that we have a deeper understanding of the sub-systems we can clearly understand that the endocannabinoid system is designed to leverage neuro-transmitters to effectively communicate and dictate the functionality of the entire body.

It is able to do this by sending signals through the gaps between neurotransmitters called synapses. The presence of CBD within the body is responsible for strengthening these connections and thusly enhancing the productivity and effectiveness of the entire body by placing it within a state known as homeostasis meaning optimum energy balance within the body.
